Contemporary Korean I: Topics in Korean Literature and Culture

This is a content-based advanced to high advanced level Korean course conducted through analysis and discussion of films, literary works, "webtoon" (online comics), scholarly articles, and social critique. Essentially a course in humanities, this course aims to develop critical thinking through various issues in contemporary society, history and culture. As a part of this effort and also to serve the double purpose as a language course, it emphasizes developing an advanced level of reading proficiency and writing skills in Korean suitable for academic or professional purposes. Fulfills upper level content course requirement for majors and minors in East Asian Studies and Korean. Prerequisites: grade of B- or better in Korean 418 or instructor's permission.
