IAS alumni Pushkar M. Sharma ('06) publishes an article on the effects of the UN Mission in Kosovo.
Pushkar M. Sharma graduated with a degree in International & Areas Studies with a concentration in South Asian Studies in 2006. Sharma decided to be an IAS major based on my experience growing up in Skokie, Illinois, a diverse suburb of Chicago where roughly 90 languages were spoken at our high school. For him, IAS was a terrific way to get a well-rounded, inter-disciplinary education as he says "the breadth and introduction to multiple methodologies really made my Wash U experience unique." "IAS courses have been very influential in my career path, as I later completed my masters degree focused on International Conflict Resolution and worked for the United Nations in multiple different countries and contexts. Throughout my career, I have continued to use the critical thinking and analytical skills that I learned in two African history courses I took with Professor Tim Parsons. The skills Professor Parsons taught us - particularly interrogating the quality and embedded biases of sources, authors, and publications - are invaluable and especially important given the often poor quality of mass media today!"
Sharma recently published an article titled "How Has the UN Mission in Kosovo Delivered on Action for Peacekeeping?" To check out Sharma's article visit: https://theglobalobservatory.org/2020/01/how-has-unmik-delivered-on-action-for-peacekeeping/
